Can you be honest and pray with your inner circle? Do they motivate you to be better? Do they push you towards Christ? It is so important to surround yourself with people on the same level as you or higher and who hold you accountable for your actions!
Believe it or not, you begin to pick up characteristics of the people you associate yourself with the most. It is our job as followers of Christ to surround ourselves with people who are filled with love and progression. Because if we surround ourselves with people who are not uplifting, make a mockery of our faith or on the wrong path; it will slowly change our heart. “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.” -1 Corinthians 15:33
What was hard for me was letting go of or distancing myself from those lifelong friends that I’m no longer growing spiritually and mentally with. So I’ve learned to still love them but at a distance because I will not allow man to have the power to stir me away from Christ! I’m on a quest to find peace, alignment and wholeness! And with that it means having to let go of my old life to allow room for the new and true life that God has created for me. We must guard our own hearts and let go of anyone/ anything that’s holding us back from being our true selves! Because at the end of the day we are not here to please our flesh but to do the work God has assigned us to do.
Which is more important, the superficial satisfaction of pleasing the flesh or receiving the eternal reward by being obedient to God? I choose the everlasting reward of being with Daddy! Remember we want to be in the position to do God appointed assignments, so we must make sure that our hearts are full and there are no distractions interrupting us from fulfilling our purpose. If you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready!
Some of my favorite verses about friendship:
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” Proverbs 17:17
“Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.’” Corinthians 15: 33
“Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” Proverbs 27:6
