Eating the perfect meal after a workout is just as important as the workout itself. The type of nutrients you put into your body right after the work can determine the effects of the workout. So no, you shouldn’t stuff your face with donuts straight off the Stair Master even though it’s calling your name. I mean, screaming your name. You worked out really hard and we should reward ourselves with foods that will promote the goals we’re trying to achieve, right? So if your gym goals are to pack on pounds or remain the same, enjoy those donuts.

If you are like me and trying to be swimsuit ready this summer, let’s get these gains! Protein is our post workout best friend. It’s best to consume protein within 30 mins after your workout has finished.

My post workout protein of choice is a protein smoothie because liquids have a faster absorption rate than solid foods and plus it’s delicious. Remember it’s most effective when you consume your post workout meal within 30 mins of your workout. So time is of the essence and the fast absorption helps.

Now if you’re starting to get me as a person, you know I am a bit extra. I can’t simply chug a protein powder and water mix. Like, where is the fun in that? Eating is as much of an experience for me as it is a medicine for my body. So with that being said, I am sharing one of my current favorite post workout smoothies! Bananas, cacao, peanut butter what more can a girl ask for! I mean, it is literally chunky in all the right places!

Chocolate Banana Post Workout Protein Smoothie

  • 1 banana (frozen)
  • 3 strawberries (frozen or fresh)
  • 1 cup spinach (fresh)
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 scoop Vega Protein Powder- Viva Vanilla
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 2 tsp cacao powder
  • 1/2 tsp maca powder
  • 1 tbsp cacao nibs
  1. Combine all ingredients except cacao nibs in a blender and mix.

  2. Once blended, fold in cacao nibs.

  3. Enjoy!
