I hope you’re week is going well! I wanted to come on here really quickly and share 3 tips on how to bear fruit of the Spirit.
Fruit of the Spirit are Godly attributes that are one of many ways to tell who are God’s children. The bible also tells you that if you are not bearing fruit you will be cut off from the vine, which is Jesus. I’m not going to be a branch that will be cut off and I don’t want that for you either. That is why I feel led to write this post, because there are some of us who are living for God but look like our BC (before Christ) self. When you give your life to God you are born again and of a new creation, your old self should not be brought into your new life.
You got saved because you needed saving, just like I do! God wants you to be transformed from your old self to your new self because He has a better life for you to live. Possessing fruit of the Spirit is evidence that you have the Holy Spirit within you and it should pour out into your everyday life.
Jesus says in Matthew 7:15-20, “‘beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly that are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thronbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.'”
What are the fruit of the Spirit?
There are 9 fruit of the spirit all together. Galatians 5:22-23 tells us exactly what they are “but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
These 9 attributes are God’s characteristics that indicates you are in fact from God. As a writer, I am constantly reminding myself that writing/ talking about fruit isn’t producing fruit. Bearing fruit of the Spirit begins as an internal transformation of the heart and mind that effect your characteristics.
Are you loving your neighbor? Do express joy in the Lord? Do you have a peaceful spirit and not one that is hostile? Are you patient, kind, good and gentle to others? Do you have enough self-control to stay on that fast? When tests arise, do you hold on to your faith? If you feel like you are struggling with bearing any or all of these fruits, continue reading for my 3 tips on how to bear fruit of the Spirit.
Spend time talking to God in prayer. The fruit of the Spirit are God’s characteristics, the more time you spend with Christ, the more you become like Him. Allow the Holy Spirit to teach you all things including bearing fruit. When you are in prayer, open up your ears and be willing to hear from Christ because the Holy Spirit will show you how to bear fruit and also restore you in areas that block you from bearing fruit.
2. Read your bible
“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My father is glorified, that you bear much fruit so you will be My disciples.” John 15:7-8
His words cant abide in you if you don’t know what those words are. Read the bible. Study the bible. The bible is God’s words. By faithfully spending time in the Word, you will be transformed and begin to bear fruit.
3. Surrender Completely
Having the fruit of the Spirit requires you to have a certain type of strength that can only be found in Jesus Christ.
For instance, loving your neighbor. I have tried to love some people for YEARS and no matter how hard I tried, I could not do it. And after a while, I realized that I was struggling because I was trying to put up this front that I loved them, but I really hated them internally.
You can’t bear fruit of the Spirit without the Spirit! That is why Jesus left us with the Holy Spirit who is our helper (John 14.26). When you surrender to God, your ways are put aside while the Holy Spirit takes free reign within you. If you allow Him, He will give you the strength to forgive in order to truly love others and bear all fruit of the Spirit. Don’t let your emotions block the Holy Spirit from freely working in you.
