They say it takes 21 days to make a habit.
The way life is looking now, we’ll have a lot more than 21 days in quarantine to really hone in on our relationship with God to make being 100% committed a genuine lifestyle. For those of you who are new to Christianity or have struggled with your relationship with Christ, these tips may help you.
Be Intentional About Following James 1:19
“Be slow to speak, slow to anger and quick to listen” James 1:19. It’s one of my favorite bible verses because it reminds me how much I need to be in relation with Jesus in order to follow His word. James 1:19 is about pursuing a righteous life by surrendering your ways to Him and allowing Him to take control. When I first read Jame 1:19, I thought it was a religious rule I was commanded to follow. However, it’s deeper than that. This passage tells you to be slow to speak from your will yet be quick to listen to what the Holy Spirit is trying to tell you. And instead of holding your breath to not go off on someone, you give your pain point to Christ so that He can be your peace. The only way to live a James 1:19 life is to die to yourself, pick up your cross and follow Christ. With life slowed down, you can really take the time to practice this way of life.
Set Up An Appointed Time To Spend Time With Christ Daily
When LA first shut down in mid-March, I heard God tell me in the middle of my quality time with Him that I finally have time to sit at His feet and hear from Him. WHEW I never realized how often I’ve squeezed Christ into my schedule that only allowed time for me to worship Him, repent and make my requests. Life pre-Rona was fast paced and I rarely gave God the time to pour into me during. (To be honest, I expected God to keep up with my schedule and communicate with me along the way). Your relationship with Christ is just that — a relationship. When you take the time to spend with Him, be still and listen to what He has to say, God will respond. During this quarantine take time to have a conversation with Him, quality time is the best way to build a relationship.
If there’s a Christian starter kit out there, I know for a fact that a journal’s in that thang. Plenty of the saints keep a journal on hand because writing out your thoughts and prayers is therapeutic. Writing is my personal love language with God. As I write I hear Him respond to me. Additionally, writing consistently will help you keep track of your life and once a promise/ prayer is answered, you can read back to see where you were and how God has carried you through.
He uses any and every opportunity for good for His children and to bring glory back to Him. That Rona is no exception. I believe that He is pulling us away from the distractions of the world and drawing us closer to Him. There isn’t a better time than now, to get in deep with Christ. Use this time wisely!
